STEM-UP Network is powered by Harrisburg University of Science and Technology, an institution wholly committed to supporting women in STEM professions.

The Harrisburg University of Science and Technology was incorporated in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 2001, making it the first independent science and technology-focused, non-profit university to be established in Pennsylvania in more than 100 years.  Harrisburg University was created to address the need for increased education opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers, and it represents a major push to attract, educate and retain a diverse 21st century knowledge-based workforce.

The University’s mission is to offer innovative academic and research programs in science and technology that respond to local and global needs. The institution fosters a diverse community of learners, provides access and support to students who want to pursue a career in science and technology, and supports business creation and economic development. Academic programs exist in data science, analytics, management and ebusiness, computer science, environmental science and sustainability, forensics, pre-medicine, biotechnology, interactive media, geospatial technologies, healthcare informatics, cybersecurity, digital marketing, project management, learning technologies, and information systems engineering and management.

HU’s commitment to serving a diverse community of learners and providing opportunities for those students to pursue, and advance in, careers in science and technology-related fields is demonstrated through its student body, its faculty, and its commitment to support the STEM-UP Network and its expansion to serve women in STEM beyond central Pennsylvania. For example, the undergraduate student body is 47% female and 65% minority.  The graduate population is about 30% female.  Faculty in our science and tech university is made up of xx% women academics. In a recent impact survey, 98% of respondents stated that their involvement in the STEM-UP community has had a positive impact on their careers and lives.
